Description
The adventure starts with a visit of the Chateau de Vizille on the outskirts of Grenoble, birthplace of the French Revolution.
Surrounded by mountains, you’ll ride through a wonderful valley and climb the iconic Alpe d’Huez. Regularly featured on the Tour de France, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the surrounding alpine peaks.
Arriving in Briancon, highest city in France and only 16 km from Italy, you’ll visit the fortified citadel of this strategic town. Walking the ramparts and fortifications you’ll understand how a handful of inhabitants withheld a much larger army from taking control of this strategic location.
At the Italian Lakes you’ll marvel at the beautiful villas on the shores, as well as the charming towns. Visit romantic Bellagio and take time to appreciate the scenery of mountain peaks meeting vast lakes. Sipping coffee at a sidewalk café, you might rub elbows with a celebrity. The Italian Lakes are a favorite destination for the rich and famous.
There are some fabulous mountain passes between the lakes and nearby Switzerland. San Bernadino & Splugen passes are calling you for some high altitude excitement.
Enjoy the serenity of Lake Como. Relax on the shores, or hop over to the Moto Guzzi museum to see historic bikes from this legendary brand.
If you have a week to spend touring, this one gives you a diverse experience. French Alps, the Piedmont region and lake district in Italy. Great cuisine, of course, and roads. Classy accommodations and a night in a real castle. Great for the solo rider or for couples.
